* The subject in a sentence or clause is the person or thing doing, performing, or controlling the action of the verb. Every sentence requires a subject and a verb to be complete. Without a subject, we would have an action being done by no one or nothing simply happening on its own, which cannot happen.
* A verb is one of the main parts of a sentence or question in English. In fact, you can’t have a sentence or a question without a verb! That’s how important these “action” parts of speech are. The verb signals an action, an occurrence, or a state of being. Whether mental, physical, or mechanical, verbs always express activity.
* Complements are words or groups of words that are necessary to complete the meaning of another part of the sentence. Complements act like modifiers to add additional meaning to the word or words they are attached to. However, unlikeadjunct modifiers, they do not add supplemental information. They provide information that is necessary to achieve the intended meaning in the sentence. Complements, even those that complete the meaning of the subject, are always part of the predicate.
Example :
1. She bring water in the classroom.
S V O Place
2. Syahrul goes to campus by motor cycle everyday.
S V Place O Time
3. I give the flower for my girlfriend.
S V O
